Spokane Coroner & Northern Pacific Surgeon Badge.
Railroad badges tend to have generic wording designating a role rather than a specific person, but this stunning badge is an exception. It is a 5-pointed star badge formerly worn by a physician who was both a coroner for the city of Spokane, Washington and a company surgeon for the Northern Pacific Railway. The NP had extensive facilities in Spokane. There must be a story behind this dual role, but at this point it is unknown. Photo by permission. Click on the image for a larger version.
